On September 15 – 17, 2017 a festival of Jewish culture and knowledge for members of Jewish communities of Kaliningrad district took place in Kaliningrad, Russia.

The festival was named "Measef" ("Collector") to commemorate the first publication of secular almanac written in Yiddish, which was issued by Moisey Mendelson – the friend of the outstanding philosopher Emanuel Kant, born in that city. Its main goal was to unite everybody, who strives for knowledge and is keen to share it with the others, thus carrying on traditions of education of Koenigsberg (now Kaliningrad) Jews.

WJC Yiddish Center was represented by Professor Mikhail Chlenov - ethnographer, scientist, orientаlist, the dean of philological department of RAMBAM Jewish State Academy in Moscow.

The professor provided two lectures: "Why Yiddish disappears?" and "Yiddish and other Jewish languages". About 30 very motivated people attended the lectures and overwhelmed the professor with lots of questions.

This event is a follow-up of the seminar for professionals of Kaliningrad Jewish organisations, which took place in Vilnius this summer. It is consequence of long cooperation of the WJC Yiddish Centre Vilnius and JCC of Kaliningrad.
