On August 22, 2017 a seminar on Yiddish culture for 25 teachers from Lithuania was held at the Holocaust remembrance center "Yad Vashem" in Jerusalem.
This was the joint project of the World Jewish Congress International Yiddish Center and the International Commission for evaluation of the crimes of the Nazi and Soviet occupational regimes in Lithuania.
The above-mentioned group had already managed to learn basics of Yiddish language and culture at the preparatory seminar, which was carried out by WJC YC in cooperation with Lithuanian Commission for genocide investigation in the Lithuanian town of Kedainiai in April 2017.
Lithuanian teachers, specializing in teaching and researching the Holocaust, attended lectures of Dr. Yushkovsky about Yiddish literature in emigration and about Jewish family dilemmas in the light of Yiddish literature and folklore.
The lectures were accompanied by numerous questions and lively discussions. Many participants admitted that our workshops in Kedainiai anfd Jerusalem brought them closer to the history and culture of Jewish people and aroused a huge interest in this subject.
