On May 19-20, 2017 a session of the program "Metzuda" took place at the resort village of Arkhyz situated in the mountains of Karachay-Cherkessia.
Some 25 young Russian-Jewish leaders of the North-Caucasian region participated in it. This program aims to provide Jewish activists with skills that will help them to guide and strengthen the community.
The event has been organized by the International Yiddish Center affiliated with the World Jewish Congress and the Jewish charitable assocation "Joint".
The World Jewish Congress has delegated Yael Boes to teach at this session. Yael is a lecturer from Moscow, she had repeatedly participated in our seminars in Vilnius and under their influence took deep interest in Yiddish literature and became an expert in this field.
In Arkhyz, Yael delivered two lectures: "Jews' images in the Works by Russian (Alexander Kuprin, Vladimir Korolenko) and Jewish (Sholom Aleichem, Chaim Nachman Bialik and Sholom Asch) writers" and "Comparative analysis of depictions of the shtetl in Russian classical literature and in Yiddish literature".
The audience asked a lot of questions both about Yiddish culture in general and about practical possibilities of mastering the language.
