"Walks in Jewish Vilnius" is a common project of WJC JC and Vilnius Jewish Public Library, realized since 2016, two excursions being held monthly. The most recent tour took place on August 13, 2017, led by the professional guide, historian and researcher of Jewish history Ilya Lempertas.

It was free of charge and open for the public. About 20 people attended the event.

The travellers followed the footsteps of Jewish culture in Vilnius: formation of Lithuanian Jewish community, construction of the first synagogue in 1573, Jewish streets paved in XVII – XVIII centuries, the Great Synagogue, mikva (ritual bath), monument to Gaon Eliyahu ben Shlomo Zalman, first Yiddish schools, the monument to Dr. Cemach Szabad (Tsemakh Shabad), the place where one of the leading Yiddish writers of the XX century Chaim Grade lived before the war, the last remaining synagogue in Vilnius and other Jewish sites.

The goal of the project is to make Vilnius inhabitants acquainted about rich Yiddish culture and its heritage.

Ilya Lempertas has been dedicated to the Lithuanian Jewish history for over 40 years. He worked in various museums, teaching institutions and research centers; he acts as a tour guide in Vilnius since 1988.
