On October 9 – 11, 2017 "Days of Jewish Culture" took place at the Beit Dan community center in Kharkov, Ukraine. The representatives of the World Jewish Congress Yiddish Center: its academic director Dr. Mordechay Yushkovsky, the Israeli singer Marina Yakubovich and the pianist & leader of Moscow klezmer band Lev Sandiuk took part in the event.
The WJA YC representatives had been invited to the "Days of Jewish Culture" in Kharkov for the second year running.
The direct result of their last year's effort is the existence of an organized group of Yiddish culture in Kharkov. Its members systematically read and analyze the literary creations recommended by YC lecturers, getting professional and methodical advice from the Center staff all year round.
This time Mordehay Yushkovsky provided the lecture "Yiddish culture in Ukraine". Then he, together with the musicians Marina Yakubovich and Lev Sandiuk, delivered a musical-literary lecture "From the old house to the new one", which included narrating the history of Yiddish songs.
About 100 people attended the lectures of the WJC YC representatives. According to the feedbacks, that event inspired them to go on studying Yiddish and its culture.
