On March 12-13, 2017 a seminar on Yiddish culture was held in Tel-Aviv by the World Jewish Congress International Yiddish Center in cooperation with the trade union of Israeli secondary schools teachers "Irgun Hammorim".
Within the framework of this seminar the preparatory course was carried out before the forthcoming seminar in Vilnius on April 2–5.
During those two days, 28 Israeli teachers got 16 academic hours of lectures by the WJC YC academic director Dr. Mordechay Yushkovsky and by Mr Ya'ad Biran.
Yushkovsky spoke about pearls of Yiddish spoken folklore (proverbs, sayings, folk stories), about secrets of Jewish humour and about female images in Yiddish literature. Biran talked about creations of the Yiddish classic Y. L. Peretz, the fable writer E. Shtainberg, the poet I. Manger, as well as about reminiscences of Yiddish writers from their journeys to Eretz Israel.
The event was crowned with the lecture-concert "From the old house to the new one", performed by Dr. Yushkovsky alongside with the Yiddish singer and pianist Marina Yakubovich.
