On June 26-27, 2017 Vilnius hosted a WJC YC seminar on Yiddish culture for 28 museum guides and volunteers of the Jerusalem International Institute for Holocaust Research "Yad Vashem".

Such event took place for the third time already. It is a common project with "Yad Vashem", launched 3 months ago.

The lectures have been provided by the Academical Director of the Yiddish Center at the World Jewish Congress, Dr. Mordechay Yushkovsky. Their main topics were Yiddish language, folklore and literature of today, its history and the future, history of the Lithuanian Jewry, and other topics related to Yiddish culture. A special session about Yiddish theater and music was held, too.

Two study tours included Jewish Vilnius, history of the local Jewish community, its flourishing life and fall during the Holocaust. They were guided by Dr. Yushkovsky and by Naama Galil, Director of the Guiding Department and Commemoration & Public Relations Division of "Yad Vashem".

Here are impressions of one of the participants, Ms. Aviva Doron: "The lectures were a pleasure to us – extremely informative and moving. Also the tour round the town following Yiddish stories was brilliant."
