On April 22-25, 2018 the International Yiddish Center at the World Jewish Congress held a seminar in Vilnius for 24 members of the Post-Phoenix educational program, which is intended for young Jews from the former USSR.

Three YC lecturers appeared at the event: its academic director Dr. Mordechay Yushkovsky, alongside with Dr. Vilma Gradinskaite and Simonas Gurevicius. All of them spoke about various aspects of Yiddish culture heritage.

The seminar was opened by the address of the group leader/coordinator Anna Supruniuk from Moscow.

Beside the regular classes, two study tours were organized, both led by the professional guide Nikita Meytin. The first day he lead the group round places of Jewish Vilnius and the second day he conducted an excursion by bus for the sightseeing of Vilnius, including the Holocaust memorial in Ponary.

Post-Phoenix is a joint project, supported by the "Genesis" Foundation and the "Claims Conference" for Russian-speaking Jewish youth who want to learn more about the history of Eastern European Jewry and the Holocaust. The aim of the project is to develop the national self-identification and involvement of youth into the community life.

It is organized in cooperation with the Yad Vashem Memorial Center, the Jewish Agency ("Sokhnut"), the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, the world Jewish student association "Hillel", and the "Hawaya Israelit" company.

The program includes an interactive training course with specialists from Yad Vashem, educational tours to Belarus, Poland or Lithuania with experienced guides from Israel. Israeli students take part in the project, too.
