On October 25-28, 2018 the International Yiddish Center at the World Jewish Congress took part at the joint conference of Jewish communities from the states of former Yugoslavia and the rest of Central and South-Eastern Europe.

The gathering, named "Mahar" ("Tomorrow" in Hebrew), took place in the town of Budva, Montenegro (Crnagora). About 500 delegates from 15 countries and numerous international organizations – diplomats, ministers, high-ranked government officials – attended the forum, which was held for the sixth time.

The WJC YC academic director, Dr. Mordechay Yushkovsky, provided a lecture "Yiddish culture as a treasury of national and universal historical memory". The talk was accepted very warmly by the really motivated, vibrant audience, which highly appreciated the pronounced striving to revive and spread knowledge about Yiddish culture and heritage as wide as possible. Lots of questions after the lecture serve an evident sign of big interest in the subject Dr Yushkovsky has spoken about.

While the State of Israel is celebrating its 70th birthday, the "Mahar" conference was led by the congratulating motto "Mazal Tov Israel 70". The forum aimed to raise the awareness of the important chapters in the Israeli history, highlighted the following points:

- gathering f the Jewish people in its historic homeland, Eretz Israel, through Aliyah from all over the world;

- IDF (the Israeli Defence Force) as one of the prominent institutions influencing the country's economy, culture and policy;

- huge achievements of KKL (JNF – the Jewish National Fund), dealing with key enterprises for the building and developing the State of Israel.
