On February 18, 2018 the academical director of the International Yiddish Center at the World Jewish Congress, Dr. Mordechay Yushkovsky provided a lecture "Yiddish culture as a treasury of national and universal historical memory" to the group of teachers from Latvia in Jerusalem at the Jerusalem institute for Holocaust research "Yad Vashem".
22 educators, who teach history of the Holocaust in various educational institutions of Latvia, have received an outstanding opportunity to enhance their knowledge on the subject and to approach the Yiddish culture and language. It is evident that Yiddish has been the basis of the whole cultural and spiritual existence of the Jews in Eastern Europe for centuries.
The audience accepted the idea that an acquaintance with the Yiddish culture is an integral part of the Holocaust studies and expressed their wish to forward the Yiddish studies at the WJC YC in Vilnius.
