On April 19-21, 2018 the academic director of the International Yiddish Center at the World Jewish Congress, Dr. Mordechay Yushkovsky, took a most active part in the "Limmud" ("Learning") annual conference in Moscow. Since 2007, that social-educational event is an important component of the Moscow Jewish calendar.
Upon the personal invitation from the "Limmud" program management, Dr. Mordehay Yushkovsky provided two lectures there: "Longing for Zion in Yiddish literature" and "Secrets of Yiddish humor and satire".
The former lecture was a part of the thematic block of the special "Limmud" program, dedicated to the 70th birthday of the State of Israel. The class was accompanied by a video presentation.
The latter was attended by the Minister of Immigrant Absorption of Israel, Mrs. Sofa Landver, who was visiting the Russian capital at that period.
Over 60 listeners were present at Dr. Yushkovsky's lectures. Many of them had already attended Yiddish seminars organized by WJC YC in Moscow, Vilnius and elsewhere.
