On February 22-23, 2018, the lectures "Chapters from the history of Yiddish literary creations in Ukraine" and "Yiddish culture on the map of Ukraine" were provided by WJC YC academic director Dr. Mordechay Yushkovsky at Mykolaiv (Nikolayev) National University named after V.A. Sukhomlinsky (NNU for short).

The event was organized by the International Yiddish Center at the World Jewish Congress and NNU Department of History. Professor Nikolay Zerkal of NNU and the chairman of the Jewish community of Mykolaiv region M. Goldberg coordinated this activity.

Dr. Yushkovsky appeared at the historical and philological departments of NNU. The audience plunged into the unique world of the Jewish shtetls of Ukraine and learned the long exciting history of the Ukrainian-Jewish relationships in that country.

The lectures were being conducted within the framework of the Center for Jewish studies, established at the NNU Department of History aiming to introduce Jewish culture and formation of inter-ethnic tolerance. As a follow-up of the cooperation, we should mention Prof. Zerkal's visit to Israel for attending international educational program which took place from February 25 to March 4, 2018.

NNU faculty members, postgraduates and students – highly appreciated Dr. Yushkovsky's lectures. According to their feedback, that was the unique opportunity to approach the history and culture of Jewish population in Ukraine. Both lecturers and students expressed their wishes to hold another seminar of that kind, to continue the cooperation with WJC YC on a long-term basis and to add a course of Yiddish to the university curriculum.
