​Lecture-concert of Yiddish songs in Vilnius for broad public

On February 7, 2018 WJC International Yiddish Center and Vilnius Public Jewish Library organized a lecture-concert for broad public in the library premises. About 40 people listened to the two talented musicians, Boris Kirzhner and Mikhail Yablonsky.

Well known and nearly unknown songs in Yiddish were performed in a cozy atmosphere. Every song had been described by the performers, explained what they are talking about, their derivation, what do they narrate.

The audience reacted to every composition in a very lively way. The part of the audience, who knew Yiddish, told that they plunged into the waves of wonderful sounds of their mother tongue. The listeners had excellent opportunity to communicate with the musicians directly in informal way, asking hundred questions about traditions of Jewish music.

The host of the event, the director of Vilnius Public Jewish Library Žilvinas Beliauskas addresses the audience.

Boris Kirzhner, a professional violinist, a graduate of the Lithuanian Music academy, worked for some years as a teacher in the music school, later he joined the Jewish music and dance ensemble "Fayerlech" – now he is the leader of its instrumental group. He has recorded a few CDs, took part in concert tours in Finland, Poland, Ukraine, Israel, United Kingdom with various groups.

Mikhail Yablonsky – a singer and guitarist, the member of "Fayerlech", also concerts with various musical groups and orchestras.
