On January 1, 2017 the first pre-seminar for 43 teachers of Israeli Secondary Schools from Irgun haMorim (Trade Union of the Israeli Secondary Schools Teachers) took place in Tel Aviv.

The second event of this kind will be held on March 12 in Jerusalem, whereas the main seminar is due on April 2-4 in Vilnius. The whole program is being organized by the World Jewish Congress.

The above-mentioned Tel Aviv session involved the following subjects:

1. Yiddish as a civilisation in the past, present and future;

2. Three classics of Yiddish literature: Mendele Moycher-Sforim, Shםlom-Aleichem and Y. L. Peretz;

3. Yiddish as a language of memory in the modern Hebrew literature;

4. Pearls of Yiddish poetry by Itzik Manger and other authors.

The first two lectures were presented by the academical director of the WJC International Yiddish Center, Dr. Mordechay Yushkovsky. The others were provided by Dr. Leah Garfinkel.

The participants displayed a keen interest to the issues; now they are looking forward to the next stages of the program.
