WJC participating in Kazan 'Limmud'

Show m. yakubovich

On September 2-4, 2016 WJC Yiddish center took part in the Limmud program in Kazan – the capital of Tatarstan Republic, a part of Russian Federation.

We were represented by Marina Yakubovich, the actress, musician, singer and music teacher from Israel, and the Muscovite Lev Sandyuk, the founder and art director of Klezmasters ensemble. They performed concert-lectures "Songs in Yiddish, songs of our soul" and "Yiddish in Odessa folklore songs" and took part in the gala concert of Jewish music.

We got excited feedbacks from the spectators. Roman Kogan, the executive director of the Limmud FSU, and Chaim Chesler, the president of the Limmud FSU, wrote as follows:

The second annual Limmud FSU Volga-Urals conference in Kazan was an outstanding success. On behalf of the 600 participants and the Limmud FSU leadership and volunteers, we want to thank you for your leadership and Mis Yakubovich and Mr Sandyuk for joining us as presenters. Their knowledgeable and experienced voice added immeasurably to the success of this exciting festival of Jewish learning and celebration.

Judging from the buzz in the halls, the standing room-only audiences at the sessions, and the exciting response to the artists and entertainers, this conference focusing on arts, culture and history met the needs and interests of participants. And we know, too, that this group of Limmudniks have a strong interest in meeting and socializing with people like themselves, as they seek to maintain their Russian Jewish heritage and unique identity. Marina and Lev's words, voices and thoughts were empowering and inspiring.

We truly appreciate your interest and understanding of how critical your presence was in helping Limmud FSU bring the best speakers to this impressionable audience.
