On December 2–4, 2016 a seminar of professional training for 25 Jewish educators from Jewish Community Centers and Heseds of Belarus and the Moscow region was held in Minsk.
This is a result of our cooperation with the FSU section of the Joint Distribution Committee. The participants listened to the lectures given by the Academical Director of the International Yiddish Center at the World Jewish Congress, Dr. Mordechay Yushkovsky.
The subjects of his lectures were as follows: "Belarus in Yiddish literature (Mendele Moicher Sforim, Moishe Kulbak, Izi Kharik, Yoysef Rabin, Avrom Reizen)", "Yiddish writers-Litvaks – their lives and literary creation", "Pearls of Jewish folklore from Marc Shagal to our days (folk tales, songs, proverbs, sayings)".
The event got high appraisals and feedback from the participants. They assured that knowledge about Yiddish culture they will use in their future educational work.
For most of them, those lectures were real revelation of an absolutely new subject. They expressed their desire to proceed their Yiddish studies at another seminar, which will be organized in the Belarus capital in the near future.
