On November 4–5, 2016 a seminar, devoted to Yiddish culture and language, took place in Posadas, in north-eastern Argentina, at the Paraguay border. This is the common event of the IWO institute in Buenos Aires and WJC YC.
The exceptional feature of this seminar was a large number of participants from various Jewish communities, gathered from remote regions of Argentina and from the adjacent Paraguay. In total ninety members of JC from Misiones, Chaco, Corrientes (Argentina) and from Paraguay took part.
Lectures were given by the Director of IWO in Buenos Aires, professor Abraham Lichtenbaum and the vocalist Miriam Nova.
The President of the Jewish Community in Posadas, Marcos Alfici expressed his gratitude for the great event in his thanksgiving letter.
The first day was devoted to the National IWO Seminar that included a Community Kabalat Shabat and three talks on the Jewish cultural diversity in the XXI century and the role of Yiddish as an identity factor. Prof. Lichtenbaum opened his talk by thanking the WJC for supporting the Seminar and the Kehilá of Posadas for hosting the regional meeting.
The second day opened with the screening of the documentary "Young people who rescued the memory" of Rodolfo Compte, that tells the history of the 800 young volunteers who rescued the books and collections of the IWO Foundation, that were located in the building of the AMIA at the time of the attack. Ester Szwarc provided first- hand information on little-known aspects of the AMIA bombing and coordinated the debate "Making Memory" with great public participation.
The seminar was crowned by a concert in which Nova Miriam sang folk songs in Yiddish, Hebrew and Judeo-Español (Ladino).
